SOPA and PIPA cripple the free and open internet. They put the onus on website owners to police user-contributed material and call for the blocking of entire sites, even if the links are not to infringing material. Small sites (such as this one that provides amazing C# material and more) will not have the sufficient resources to mount a legal challenge. Without opposition, large media companies may seek to cut off funding sources for small competing foreign sites, even if big media are wrong. Foreign sites will be blacklisted, which means they won’t show up in major search engines.

When I brought up this site and started writing articles on it, I found myself to have already bound myself to a single concept and idea. Originally a lot of the drafts I have created and the articles I have published have been technology related. However as time went on, I found interesting current events that I wanted to comment or react to in this space. Being locked in to a single concept of technology tips and tricks prevented me from doing so.

I need to take a moment to write a bit about a recent event that has struck close to home with me. That event was the announcement of Infinity Ward taking away the Dedicated Servers from Modern Warfare 2 (MW2). If you have not fallen out of your chair yet then you a) do not grasp the situation at hand or b) are not a PC gamer (which is fine). If you do not know what is going on then here is a quick overview about this new death of Dedicated Servers, and why it matters.

As a student of this program, I must complete three semesters of co-op work within the five years of year-round engineering education. So instead of going to classes, for a given semester I spend the entire time working in an engineering position of my field. That way when I complete my education in five years I’ll leave with not only a Master’s of Engineering, but have one year of work experience in my field. Since the beginning of my Fall 2009 semester I have interviewed with many companies in the hopes that I will get an offer for co-op. Today I finally locked in my co-op position with a company here in Louisville called FacilityOne.
